Magnetic Tacks Motor

This is a simple homemade electric motor that uses ‘magnetic tacks’ for the rotor magnets. A round wooden tooth pick is the rotor shaft and it runs in the cross hairs of phillips screw heads. The motor driver uses a 30Mh (10mm x 16mm) choke as the coil and a simple reed switch circuit does the power switching. A 110v neon is across the choke and illuminates using the flyback from the choke. The energy to run the motor comes from a small pre- loaded 2.7v super capacitor. This will run the motor for a few minutes.
