Electrostatic Motor —running on waste laptop energy

This is an electrostatic motor that I found running on it’s own one day next to my laptop computer. Initially I thought that the air coming from the fan outlet of my computer was picking up a charge and causing the motor to run. It wasn’t running that way at all but rather from the flow of air hitting the rotor just right. The use of air flow on a low friction rotor is one of the favorite ways to fake perpetual motion machines. This method has been used for many many years. The motor I show here does run on a high voltage electrostatic source but the way it is running here is by simple air flow. The reason I posted this video was to illustrate how easily one can deceived by something moving apparently on it’s own. Even the device builder can be fooled sometimes. This little device has found a home now near my computer and runs on free waste energy. It is fun to watch.
