Extreme High Voltage: TinselKoil VII Overview, Construction, Demo
Here’s the overview of the TinselKoil VII, the 24 VDC hybrid solid state / spark gap Tesla Coil.
I am still in the process of tuning the spark gap stage. The ZVS driver circuit is working perfectly; the mosfets run normally warm even after long runs with breakout and corona.
However I need to watch the flyback temperatures carefully. I managed to blow another one, as I mention in the video.
Today I have added another element to the spark gap and cleaned up some other issues. We shall see if it makes a difference as soon as I can take over the bathroom.
WARNING: LETHAL VOLTAGES and they can jump out and GET YOU if you are not careful. YOLO… and you only need to make one mistake to find that out. If you do not have experience with very high voltages this is NOT the place to get it. Please be very very careful: the combination of the flyback voltages and the capacitor energy storage can result in severe injury and death. I cannot be held responsible if you choose to ignore this advice and wind up frying your silly ass like so much bacon.
