Repair – 37" Philips freebie TV
The repair of a dead flatscreen TV, showing blown caps, leak area and overheated diode.
A friend dropped off 3 old CRT’s and this Philips TV for parts. We’ve never owned a flatscreen, so this was a great challenge to get it running again.
Here’s a link to the TV itself, though most seem to follow a similar failure pattern…caps and it seems the flyback diode blows following dramatic capacitor failure. In this case, one cap seems to have leaked/base melted onto the circuitboard.

A bit of a bonus…there were 2 remote controls with the dirtied up old TV’s. One of them is for this TV and works great !
