Wireless Electric – Curiosity Rover

On finding that HotWheels had released a Mars Curiosity Rover, I bought one and wondered what it would look like with lights on for night rovering.
With not wanting the hassle of changing out flat batteries, an old house phone 3.6V Ni-CD battery has been used which is recharged with a solar panel.

A coil of 50 winds (32AWG) and 6 LED’s in series were fitted.

Current used is 65mA and the salvaged SMD transistor stays quite cool, with no heating issues.

It makes for an effective diorama display and was a fun weekend project 🙂
