Mesh metal pickup electrode is not Stainless steel but copper in NiMH cell

Hi All,
after the burnup of my NiMH cell I examined the negative pole mesh metal by grinding it down a bit and suddenly I saw a copper metal coming up beneath the silvery coating…

So indeed the negative pole pickup electrode is not stainless steel as I thought, but in reality a copper mesh foil which is just coated with probably zinc or something simular…

Probably they use the copper mesh metal to have a better conduction and get the inner resistance (impedance) lower and this be able to deliver more current….

Anyway, just wanted to pint this out…

Regards, Stefan.
