Astronomy 15: Processing a Lunar Image

Here’s a peek over my shoulder as I process a lunar image using Pleiades PixInsightLE 1.0. The original image was taken using the Megrez 90 apo refractor on the CGEM mount, with the Baader Hyperion Mark III zoom eyepiece projecting into the Canon Xti, set to ISO200 and 1/500 sec exposure, deliberately underexposed to preserve highlight detail. The fullsized finished jpeg image (about 2MB) may be downloaded at www.mediafire.com And in a few minutes I’ll put up another version from the same frame, but starting with the raw .cr2 file instead of the camera’s native jpeg, and saved in an uncompressed (and much larger) format. Here: (39 MB) www.mediafire.com The exact same processing is applied to both images.
