Darning Needle Motor
This a very simple homemade DC electric motor that uses a large sewing needle called a ‘darning needle’. The needle is used as the rotor shaft and it’s large eye is used as switching point for the motor. The motor is constructed of simple to find parts and is held together with double sided foam mounting tape. The purpose of the project was to present an easy to build homemade electric motor that could be assembled in a short amount of time and at minimal cost. When the project was over the finished motor can be easily taken apart and the pieces used again for another project.
