Scoposcopy: Rigol DS1054Z New SP2 Firmware Still Buggy

Rigol has released a new firmware update for the DS1000Z series scopes. Have they actually fixed anything with this new firmware?

The firmware is 00.04.03.02.03, displayed in the System Info screen as 00.04.03.SP2. (ETA: see my comment about the System Info screen below.)

Yes… and no. Mostly no. The scope can still be made to freeze, and the Math error is still there. A couple of Trigger bugs have been fixed (I don’t cover them in this video.)

The new firmware adds a badly needed Pulse Counter (and Edge counter) to the Horizontal Measurements… but they actually misspelled “Pulses” as “Pluses” on the screen measurement display!! Insert facepalm here…..

Let’s hope we get a new firmware really soon. I can understand not being able to fix the bugs, but come on, Yuo shuld at lest SPEL thnigs rite! It’s embarrassing when I show people my fantastic new digital scope… and they laugh at the silly spelling error.

NOTE: I discovered that it IS possible to get the full System Info screen, showing all the loaded software versions and the number of start cycles, according to the directions Jason sent. You have to press the button sequence very fast though, a lot faster than I did in this video. In the Trigger area, press Menu,Menu,Force,Menu very fast then without delay press Utility,System,System Info, and if you were very fast in your pressing you should see the full System Info screen rather than the abbreviated one that I got in this video.
