Scoposcopy: X-Y Mode, Phase, Trigger/Synched Function Generators

Here’s a quick demo of the X-Y mode of the Tektronix 2213a oscilloscope, showing two sine waves that can be varied in phase and the Lissajous patterns that result.

The signals are coming from the WaveTek Model III and the Interstate F43 function generators, with the WaveTek triggering/synching the F43 at about 2.5 kHz. The F43’s Phase control is used to vary its signal’s phase with respect to the WaveTek’s signal.

Elementary Lissajous patterns and their relationship to the phase of the two signals are shown on the Tektronix 2213a scope’s X-Y display mode.
