Electric OU: Tar Baby and the Dim Bulb Test, Part 3

(no audio) Gaah…. I ran out of disk space during the test and the timelapse failed. I was able to salvage some of the frames, though. Here you can see the 4 Tar Baby run batteries on the left side and the two set-asides on the right. I started the two set-asides first as usual then proceeded down to the left starting the others. You can tell from this short sequence that the TB bulbs are dimming. At first, though, the TB bulbs seemed just as bright as the others, even though the TB batteries all indicated just under 12 volts no-load so were quite depleted. It took about seven minutes total to extinguish the TB bulbs, and the set-asides were still glowing brilliantly. Conclusion: The Tar Baby run batteries did discharge over the 5 days of testing after they and the set-asides were fully charged by the Penske automatic charger. ——————————————— Circuit Under Test: Tar Baby Rev. D at 48 Volts input, with DC bias current, mostly supplied by external battery but including approx 2 hrs run time on TB internal battery and inverting charge pump for bias current. Bulbs: automotive type #1157, NOS, both filaments in parallel Batteries: Toyo-USP 6FMH4, 12 V 5 AH, sealed lead acid Charger: Penske Model 7061261 Automatic automotive battery charger, on 2A setting Bird: Cpt. Morgan ——————————————— Thanks for watching….. and “sorry about the light…” 😉
