Don Smith Device Project Part 16: 30 volts input & FULL brightness? :)

this is an older vid i decided to post because of the incredible performance these capacitors exhibited. 10000V pulse .005uf. Since this vid i have killed two of them 🙁 but their performance was outstanding. Turning the variac up further than 30 volts, produces an impressive, seemingly perfectly steady spark & absolute brightness in the load. So i conclude that with durable enough primary caps, & adequate output diodes, this can work very inexpensively 🙂 If only i protected them, but 30 volts is drastically less than ever before. wierd. I think that with my center tap removed from my NST they would have survived. Btw… you could follow a standard tesla coil hookup for this one, just ground one end of L2, & the primary is inside rather than outside 🙂 Part 15’s schematic is still the present state of the development, except imagine using these primary caps… with a working centertap hookup (as in part 15) …then i would expect this to be just about complete aside from exact tuning via osciloscope… just havent had the guts to hook this up to my precious bench scope… perhaps someone with experience reading high volts with a scope can tell me the best way to measure using the scope??
